Matthew Bourne’s:  The Red Shoes 

Some performances stay with you long after the curtain falls, and Matthew Bourne’s The Red Shoes was one of them.

Inspired by Hans Christian Andersen’s timeless 1845 fairy tale, this extraordinary dance production tells its story not through words, but through movement, music and breathtaking theatrical imagination.

I have to admit, I loved every moment of it.

The choreography is magical, whimsical and beautifully expressive, drawing you into a world where every movement carries emotion. Just when you think words are essential to tell a story, The Red Shoes proves that dance alone can be every bit as captivating.

Adding another layer of magic is the unforgettable music of Bernard Herrmann, the legendary composer best known for his collaborations with Alfred Hitchcock. Hearing his powerful film scores reimagined for the stage creates an atmosphere that is hypnotic, dramatic and emotionally absorbing.

Together, the music, choreography and theatrical design created a cinematic experience that felt deeply emotional. 

This performance was is than ballet for me personally.

It’s a story of ambition, passion and sacrifice, told with such elegance and creativity. 

Whether you’re a lifelong fan of contemporary dance or someone who has never considered booking a ballet before, The Red Shoes is a production that thoroughly deserves to be experienced.
