With a gothic twist, Sleeping Beauty A Gothic romance was a whimsical retelling of the classic ballet.

Far from a traditional performance, this was a supernatural love story full of mystery, Edwardian elegance, and modern magic. From the haunting stage design to the atmospheric music and dazzling costumes, everything was designed to transport us. One of our ladies said, “The seats were so good we could see every detail — including the barefoot dancers in guy liner!” Now that’s a front-row thrill!

This production by Matthew Bourne’s New Adventures blended ballet, theatre, puppetry and storytelling with charm and emotion. The clever puppets and expressive performances (with no words spoken!) had us completely hooked from start to finish. It was a gothic fairytale brought vividly to life — both spellbinding and strangely humorous at times.

Before the show, we shared a lovely pre-theatre dinner with Culture Calendar friends, making it the perfect sociable evening full of conversation, laughter, and cultural magic.
